Dashboard is a manager’s “killer application”! Since the mainframe was invented in the Fifties, companies have dreamt about managing their business exclusively with computers. But all attempts were futile as the technology was too expensive or ineffective.
Now, thanks to dashboards, this dream has come true.
Keith Gile from Forrester Research Inc. thinks that 40% of the 2,000 most important US companies use the technology. Some of the most important chief executives in the world are starting to believe in them, from Steve Ballmer of Microsoft and Ivan Seidenberg in Verizon Communication to Robert Nardelli in Home Depot. “Dashboard gives me much more information than our managers can provide to know our business in real time and to make decisions” says Seidenberg.
The programs used to present Dashboard are of such importance that they are changing the very nature of management from an “intuitive” art to a science. Managers instantaneously see key business changes and can rapidly decide on corrective actions. Edoardo Spallanzani, youthful Manager of the Mascalzone restaurant chain, wants to follow the profitability of every dish on the menu to compare it with the target. “I look at RDS’ ERP dashboards first thing every morning to see at a glance how sales and services are going” he says.
Five years ago dashboards had to be purpose-made for every client and could be worth more than hundreds of thousands of euros; today, RDS makes available to its key clients and SMEs an essential tool to manage production, sales and control in a way that was not possible in the past. Each manager can easily personalise his/her own Dashboard with RDS tools without altering the programs.
